Mrs Nayana De Silva, the new President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) assumed office at the Army Headquarters on Wednesday (4) morning at the ASVU Headquarters during a brief ceremony that preceded religious observances, rites and rituals of all major faiths.
Mrs De Silva on arrival was received by Mrs Sepali Samarasinghe, Vice President, ASVU, offering a bouquet of flowers. The former ASVU President, Mrs Damayanthi Rathnayake also attended the occasion. Both the new and the former ASVU Presidents were conducted to the office in a cultural procession, to be received by ASVU senior members.
Afterwards, amidst Seth Pirith of the Maha Sangha and blessings of all religions, she inaugurated the office after lighting the traditional oil lamp.
Signifying the acceptance of the ASVU office which is dedicated for the promotion of welfare activities of War Heroes and their families, Mrs De Silva, afterwards, placed her signature in an official document.
The former ASVU President, Mrs Ratnayake, chairpersons of Regimental Seva Vanitha Units and senior members who attended the occasion, expressed their greetings and wished the new President good luck with her new appointment. A group photo plus a tea table culminated the day’s simple ceremony.
A few senior Army officers and a gathering of ASVU members were present at the occasion.
