Troops serving Vettalakerni and Iyyakachchi under the Jaffna Security Forces Headquarters and Periyapandivirichchan of the 61 Division area under the Security Forces Headquarters-Wanni in the past few days conducted medical camps for civilians and organized blood donation campaigns at hospital requests.
Troops serving the 55 Division Headquarters at Vettalkerni, Jaffna, commanded by Brigadier B. H. M. A Wijesinghe, on account of its 16th anniversary organized a blood donation campaign on Saturday (15) at the Headquarters premises.
More than 237 officers and other ranks volunteered to donate blood during the arrangement, attended by an eight-member medical team of the Jaffna District Hospital. Medical Officers, G Hartheek and V. Sharmalee led the team.

Meanwhile, Iyyakachchi-based 552 Brigade recently conducted a mobile medical camp at Iyyakachchi Government Tamil Mixed School where more than 900 civilians were screened for various sicknesses and ailments.
A makeshift laboratory, set up at the same place with the help of visiting Mediquic (Pvt) Ltd of Colombo 6 and Mediquic Diagnostics of Colombo 13, provided ECG, blood testing, X-ray facilities, etc during the mobile clinic. A separate bus transport service for facilitation of patients was also made available, enabling civilians in remote areas to receive consultations.
Brigadier B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division, Colonel Deepal Wanniarachchi, 552 Brigade Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Ranjith Jayasekara, Civil Affairs Officer, 552 Brigade and several others attended the opening occasion of the clinic.

In the meantime, 24 Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops serving the 613 Brigade under the 61 Division at the request of medical authorities at Periyapandivirichchan Government Hospital came forward to donate blood for the use of inmates in the hospital on Monday (10).
10 officers and 120 other ranks of the Army volunteered to donate blood during the campaign.
