Army Launches Multiple Community Projects &;amp; Supports People

The Army with the intention of supporting further elevating living standards of the newly-resettled people in the north and east has launched a series of community development projects.

Sixty families in Parappankandal under Manthai West Divisional Secretariat received mosquito nets as gifts thanks to the efforts of the 54 Division. Similarly, six power generators were donated to Catholic Churches and Hindu Kovils (Temples) by 542 Brigade to be used in the event of power failures.

Brigade Commander 542 Brigade Colonel H. L. V. M. Liyanage made these donations at a simple ceremony, organized recently at Parappankandal church.

The 541 Brigade on the instructions of the General Officer Commanding 54 Division meanwhile distributed eight new footballs among four schools in Mannar district. Students of Pappamotai Roman Catholic School, Adampan Maha Vidyalaya, Iluppukadawai Maha Vidyalaya and Wedithalathivu Maha Vidyalaya received those footballs that can be used for their sport training.

In the meantime, soldiers in the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment deployed under 541 Brigade constructed a pre school building at St. Lucia Church for the kids in the area.

The 57 Brigade too has constructed another pre school for the benefit of offspring of the newly resettled people in Kilinochchi area. This pre school in Urthipuram village was fully constructed by the soldiers in the 571 Brigade.

Meanwhile, Army’s Combat Training School (CTS) in Ampara organized a free distribution of dry rations to 30 families resettled in Bakmitiyawa, Kumbukgollewa, and Kiwulewatta villages. The project organized by Commandant at CTS Ampara Colonel K. D. C. G. J. Thilakarathne under the guidance of chief incumbent at Kudagonaduwe Uththara Chaithya Ven. Gonaduwe Sugathawansha thero was carried out with the contributions of Dr. (Ms) Oshadi Perera at Panadura General Hospital and Customs Officers Mr. Kantha Karunasekara and Mr. Lalith Weerasinghe at a cost of Rs. 50,700/=.
