To coincide with the National Tree Planting campaign, Army troops across the country launched their own separate programmes in the past four days (Nov 15 - 18).
Troops serving Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) organized a tree planting programme at Mahamewuna Bhavana Asapuwa (Meditation Centre) at Kumbalwela, Bandarawela on Friday (15).
Intending to make the religious place, full of greenery, troops planted 500 tree saplings in the monastery premises under the auspices of Ven Alugolle Jinananda Thero, Chief Incumbent, Mahamewuna Bhavana Asapuwa. Senior officers and other ranks joined the programme.
Meanwhile, troops serving the 62 Division, 68 Division, 54 Division and Security Force Headquarters Wanni (SFHQ-W) had their own tree planting programmes in respective premises on the same day (15).
68 Division Headquarters planted 250 teak saplings during a simple ceremony in Mullaittivu on the directions of Brigadier T.J Nanayakkara, General Officer Commanding, 68 Division.
Similarly, all officers and other ranks serving the 62 Division in Vavuniya under the SFHQ-W planted 1000 tree saplings inside the 62 Division Headquarters premises on Friday (15).
In the meantime, Brigadier M.A.M Dias, General Officer Commanding, 54 Division in Mannar, together with all ranks planted more than 100 tree saplings inside the 54 Division Headquarters premises.
Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W meanwhile, together with his officers and other ranks launched a tree planting ceremony inside the SFHQ-W compound where more than 1000 trees were planted.
