The Sri Lanka Army Kabbadi team for the third consecutive time beating its rivals in the Navy clinched the Championship Trophy during the tournament at St Peter’s Indoor Stadium, Colombo 4 on 17th September.
The tournament, began on Thursday (16) was competed by teams from the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force and the final tussle got underway Friday (17) evening amidst a host of distinguished visitors.
The victorious Army team, showing its skills beat the rivals for 25 - 23 after a tough fight.
During the years 2008, 2009 and 2010 the Army team emerged victorious continuously in the Defence Services tournaments.
Lance Corporal D W I M K Isuru Bandara of Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps was adjudged the Best Sportsman and Lance Corporal W S N Gunatillake of Sri Lanka Light Infantry became the Best Defender. Both of them were awarded trophies and certificates on the same occasion by the Chief Guest.
However, the Women’s Kabbadi Team Trophy was won by the Sailors beating Air Force rivals. Brigadier M Ambanpola, Chairman Army Kabbadi Association, Brigadier Rohana Bandara and Chairman at Navy and Air Force Kabbadi Association were present.
