Army Hockey Players Carry Away President's Cup

Sri Lanka Army Hockey players Tuesday (22) evening beat their Navy counterparts during the finals in the knockout Hockey Tournament, held at Reid Avenue Astro Hockey Turf and carried away the President’s Cup. The Army scored 3 against 0.

Tuesday’s finals came about after a tournament that was conducted nearly for three weeks under arrangements, made by Sri Lanka Army Hockey Committee, chaired by Major General V.U.B Nanayakkara. Fourteen club teams from tri services and the civil sector vied in the near three-week long tournament that commenced on April 5.

Inspector General of the Police Mr N.K Illangakoon as the Chief Guest presented the President’s Cup to the Army winners.

As the finals were underway with enhanced vigour, both Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake and Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, made a surprise visit to the turf, in order to encourage the players.

Both Commanders too contributed to the award of medals to the Army winners and Navy players.
