Army Chief Attends Ceremonies at SFHQ-J

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army went to Jaffna Security Force Headquarters on Thursday (29) in order to attend a ceremony for distribution of TV sets, library books and open the new swimming pool and the club house, erected in the popular ‘Thalsevana’ Holiday Resort, managed by the Army.

Major General Jagath Alwis, Commander, Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) welcomed the visiting Army Chief on arrival at the Security Force Headquarters entrance before a drive-past Guard Turnout, greeted him in accordance with military traditions.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake after meeting the Jaffna Commander, took time off to exchange a few thoughts and views with all the General Officers Commanding of the SFHQ-J who were present at the venue and inquired into their well-being.   

The first segment of the day’s itinerary began with the distribution of a stock of TV sets among all the Divisions and Brigades to be installed inside billets of the serving soldiers in the peninsula. In addition, a stock of library books were also given away to senior officers from respective Brigades and Divisions on the same occasion for the use of both officers and soldiers in their reading units.

As the dusk fell, a special ceremony at ‘Thalsevana’ Holiday Resort, saw the visiting Commander as the Chief Guest, open the new fresh water swimming pool and the ‘Thalsevana’ club house, constructed by the engineer troops of the Engineer Service Regiment (ESR).

The day’s ceremonies were coloured by a special musical show, staged by musicians of the Army with the participation of a large gathering of officers and soldiers serving the SFHQ-J.
