Army-Built & TV Channel Sponsored New Home Warmed

Troops of 8 Gemunu Watch under command to the 61 Division and the Security Force HQ-West jointly constructed a new home for a needy family in Pallebedda , Ratnapura in collaboration with the sponsoring MTV/MBC, 'Sirasa' Media Network through its 'SirasaNiwasa' project on the directions given by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army after sponsors sought the Army technical and manpower assistance for its construction.

Major General WasanthaAbrew, Commander Security Forces-West enabled troops to complete the project with funds and resources, made available by the 'SirasaNiwasa' after the need was projected. Major General DammiHewage, General Officer Commanding 61 Division graced the auspicious inaugural house-warming ceremony as the Chief Guest, together with MrsNeedra Weerasinghe, Head of the MTV and MBC Network representing the 'SirasaNiwasa' programme on Saturday (13).

After the miserable plight of the family of poverty-stricken, Ms Mallika Dilrukshi was brought to the notice of the sponsors, the 'SirasaNiwasa' project turned to the Commander of the Army in search of Army manpower and their construction skills for erection of this much-needed house since it would mitigate the costs of the project.

In accordance with ancient traditions, the day's Chief Guest and the sponsors at the auspicious minute unveiled a plaque, joined oil-lamp lighting and milk-pot boiling rituals, together with beneficiaries while the recipient's relatives were looking on.

'Sirasa' Media Network officials, Commanding Officer of 8 GW, Civil Affairs Officers of the 61Division, community leaders, relatives of the family and well-wishers were associated with the day's event.
