Kankasanthurai, Mailady based Army’s newest ‘Yoghurt’ production center saw its ceremonial birth on Monday (14), thereby saving a fair chunk of expenditure that can be used for erection of wellness resorts for disable War Heroes in the Army.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army at the invitation of Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ - J) and Major General SK Weerasinghe, Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) ceremonially opened the production centre, capable of supplying the entre quantity of the delicacy to North - based troops.
With the Anuradhapura and Panagoda Yoghurt production centers together with the North – based Mailady one opened today (14), the Army expects to meet the demand for the dessert in the Army menu and cut down the cost, more than two thirds, enabling profits, these acquired be used in the Wellness Resort (Abimansala) construction of the ‘Brave Hearts’ project of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB).
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya after unveiling a plaque on the occasion inaugurated the production process and saw for himself how the production was being processed and exchanged a few thoughts with those working there, most of who are disable War Heroes.
The Army to its strength of about 2 lakhs supplies Yoghurt as their dessert on a daily basics as prescribed in the day’s menu.
Though a Yoghurt costs the Army about Rs. 28-29 when bought from outside, it has been found that the Army professionalism could complete a cup of Yoghurt with a minimal cost of about Rs. 10 -12 per cup, thereby saving a lot of profits.
Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch, the stimulating force behind welfare projects in the Seva Vanitha, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ - J), Directors, SLASC Senior Officers and a large gathering were present at the opening ceremony.
