Opening up a new vista of congeniality and hospitality, the Army-owned newest holiday resort in the deep southern wild, ‘LÄya Safari’ at Palatupana, Yala bordering the Yala National Sanctuary is now ready for service.
At the invitation of Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, Hon Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa attended the ceremonial opening of ‘LÄya Safari’ at Palatupana, Yala today (9) as the Chief Guest. Hon Speaker on arrival at the venue was received warmly by the Commander of the Army and conducted to the complex in a colourful procession.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, who is also the driving force of the project that ensured all three major holiday resorts of the Army were rebranded to go hand in hand with the country’s fast-swelling hospital industry, was the brainchild behind the eco friendly ‘LÄya Safari’ with 2 de luxe rooms in 10 cabanas. In the near future 30 more luxurious rooms with plunged pools will adorn the complex.
‘LÄya Safari’ with all state of the art facilities including pool bars, coffee shops and restaurants with all international culinary flavours is manned by a civil team of 57 professionally qualified hoteliers round the clock, apart from a staff of Army personnel assisting its smooth function.
Afterwards, Hon Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa together with the Army Chief unveiled the plaque that symbolizes the inauguration of the project before entering the main administration wing after cutting a ribbon at the auspicious minute. Chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ coincided with the Chief Guest’s ribbon-cutting ritual. The lighting of the traditional oil lamp plus the traditional milk-pot boiling ritual got underway as the auspicious entry into the complex took place.
Touched by the tranquility and serene surroundings, both the Chief Guest and the Army Chief visited each and every wing of the new complex afterwards and saw for themselves de luxe comforts, offered by the hotel at reasonable price.
Symbolizing the reservation of hotel rooms for the first time, the Commander of the Army presented the maiden set of keys to the Chief Guest as is the practice in a housewarming ceremony of a hotel.
The newest ‘LÄya Safari’, facing the rolling waves of the Indian ocean to the south, is the first of the Army’s Cabana-type star class hotel complex in the deep south of the country. It was built by soldiers of the Engineer Service Regiment and its de luxe and relaxing luxurious rooms and Cabanas would surely offer a panoramic view to the visitor, leaving glimpses of eternal memory behind with a service unforgettable at affordable price.
Exactly a month ago, Directorate of Welfare at Army Headquarters, on directions given by the Commander of the Army took steps to rebrand the Army’s famous Wadduwa Holiday Resort as ‘LÄya Beach,’ the popular Kukuleganga Holiday Resort as ‘LÄya Leisure’ and the newest addition at Palatupana ‘LÄya Safari,’ bringing all three of them under the thematic ‘LÄya’ Hotel chain, managed by a professionally qualified Group General Manager of the flourishing hospitality industry.
Today’s opening of this Army-owned jungle-based hotel, open to both Army personnel and the public, marks yet another landmark in the sphere of Army welfare while contributing simultaneously to Sri Lanka’s growing hotel industry in a competitive manner, to coincide with the country’s forward-march to be the ‘Miracle of Asia’.
Hon Speaker, showing a keen interest on the project went round the premises and expressed his appreciation. Before his departure, the Commander presented him with a token souvenir, adding eternal memories.
