Major General R.M.D Ratnayake, Chief of Staff, Sri Lanka Army Headquarters was unanimously elected the new President, Athletic Association of Sri Lanka (AASL) on Thursday (3).
It is the first occasion in the 90-year old history of the AASL that a serving Major General in the Army has been elected as AASL president unanimously. Before this appointment, Major General Ratnayake, in his capacity as Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Athletic Association, has been an AASL committee member for several years.
Major General Ratnayake is also the current Chairman, Defence Services Athletic Committee.
