Armoured Corps Commemorates their Fallen War Heroes

The memory of 28 Officers and 415 Other Ranks of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) who made the supreme sacrifice during the Humanitarian Operations before May 2009 was refreshed paying floral tributes to them at the SLAC War Heroes' monument at Kalattewa SLAC Camp on Sunday (27).

The commemoration coincided with the forthcoming SLAC Corps Day and was organized by SLAC troops under the guidance of Major General Swarna Bothota, Colonel Commandant SLAC and Military Secretary.

The Colonel Commandant graced the event as the Chief Guest, together with several other Senior Officers. At the outset, Colonel Commandant was welcomed by Brigadier Priyantha Kariyawasam, Commander, Armoured Brigade and Brigadier Piyal Wijesiriwardena, SLAC Centre Commandant at the entrance.

Later on, the day’s Chief Guest, flanked by several Senior Officers and family members of fallen War Heroes made their way to the monument and saluted their memory by placing floral wreaths. The SLAC Colonel Commandant took time off to share a few views with those family members present at the location.

Meanwhile, SLAC troops on account of their forthcoming 67th Corps Day Anniversary on 15 December 2022 organized an all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting ceremony and a subsequent ‘Heel Daana’ (breakfast) to members of the Maha Sangha.

The SLAC Colonel Commandant, Major General Swarna Bothota attended those religious ceremonies with Mrs. Harshini Bothota, Chairperson, SLAC Seva Vanitha Branch, Brigadier Priyantha Kariyawasam, Commander Armoured Brigade, Brigadier Piyal Wijesiriwardena, Centre Commandant SLAC, Senior Officers, spouses, Other Ranks, Retired Officers and family members of fallen War Heroes attended the event.
