Ambalangoda Dharmashoka Centenary Celebrations Give Red Carpet Welcome to Commander


Dharmasokians at Ambalangoda Dharmashoka Vidyalaya, now marking her centenary (1913-2013) celebrations,  gave the red carpet welcome to the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Tuesday (26) afternoon when he graced the grand prize-giving ceremony of the centenary Drill and Band Competition at Ambalangoda  Dharmashoka Vidyalaya auditorium.

School Cadets, according a special Guard of Honour to the Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, saluted him on arrival at the premises after he was warmly received by Mr M.G.O.P Panditharatne, Principal and Mr Aruna Fernando, President of Past Cadets Congregation.

Dharmashoka Vidyalaya at Ambalangoda during her 100-year old most-reputed life-span, producing eminent personalities of the highest caliber since her founding by late Mudliyar S Thomas De Silva, has remained one of the most leading southern schools with several, hitherto unbroken records, particularly in sports.

Dharmashoka’s centenary celebrations are coloured with a mega exhibition, trade fair, carnival, sports festival, drills and band competitions, etc and reached its apex with Tuesday’s prize-giving ceremony.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya as the Chief Guest on the occasion at the invitation of the Principal, gave away trophies, merit awards and certificates to the winners in the Drill and Band Competition of the Dharmashoka Vidyalaya amidst thundering rounds of applause. Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) was also associated with the event. These events were attended by several thousands of students and well-wishers.
