All Set to Mark 65th National Independence Day

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetillake, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage on Saturday (2) were on hand in Trincomalee when the second day rehearsals for National Independence Day were held.

They all reviewed the parade closely and added certain improvements to the flow of the procession that salutes HE the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya personally moved towards rehearsing segments and inspected separate unit representations, attaching a qualitative touch.

This year’s theme of the National Independence Day is ‘Asirimath Mawubimak - Isurumath Hetadinak’ (A Glorious Motherland - A Flourishing Tomorrow) and the main ceremony, headed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, will take place with the participation of some 3825 personnel of the tri-services, Police and Civil Defence Force in consistent with the government’s policy of taking mega national events to distant provincial areas.
