Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army in a special National Independence Day Message reminded the importance of the commitment of all members of the Security Forces for maintenance of national security and the promotion of reconciliation and harmony.
He summarized the evolution of the nation, its marvellous agricultural wonders and the civilization and how Sri Lanka survived even under trying circumstances since the 16th century after the country fell prey to foreign invasions. He also urges all Army personnel to be alert to national security needs all the time without leaving room for recurrence of any bloodbath like the Easter Sunday attack, etc.
