Responding to the SOS request of the local populace in Wallipura area, the troops belonging to the 682 Brigade of the 68 Division immediately attended to the leakages that developed on the tank bund of Puthukuduirippu Maradamadu Lake on Saturday (22) as water levels swelled due to torrential rains.
By laying sandbags about 100 soldiers, including Officers of 6 Gemunu Watch, 3 (v) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 9 Sri Lanka National Guard troops prevented the breach of the tank bund. The guidance of Major General Rohan Ponnamperuma, General Officer Commanding, 68 Division and Brigadier Chaminda Galappathi, Commander 682 Brigade enabled the troops to swiftly attend to the emergency.
