The new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 61 Division Major General Dammi Hewage assumed duties on Friday (15) at the 61 Division Headquarters in Boossa.
A formal Guard Turnout saluted the new GOC upon his arrival at the Division Headquarters premises, followed by a Guard of Honour in keeping with military traditions. Afterwards, amid religious blessings, he signed an official document and symbolized the acceptance of his new office.
Later, he was invited to plant a Mango sapling in the premises as a symbol of memory. After a while, he addressed all ranks and explained his vision for conduct of duties and roles in the 61 Division.
Prior to his present appointment, he held the office of the Brigadier General Staff at the SFHQ-West. He succeeds Major General Sanjaya Wanasingha who has now assumed office as the Adjutant General at the Army Headquarters.
