A special conference on mitigation of the impact of natural disasters and any emergencies, erupting from a Tsunami got underway at the 59 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu on Friday (7).
Major General G.D Sooriya Bandara, General Officer Commanding, 59 Division presided and the conference was attended by Brigade Commander of the 591 Brigade, Brigadier Sujeewa Perera, Brigade Commander of the 592 Brigade, Brigadier Chaminda Arachchige, the Colonel General Staff (Colonel G.S.) of the 59 Division, Colonel S.P Malawarage, Colonel Administration & Logistics of the 59 Division, Colonel Y.C.D.P Piyasena, Commanding Officer of the 12 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (12 SLLI) Major D.K Kaluwadewa, Commanding Officer of the 24 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (24 SLSR) Major N.T.S Nallaperuma, Commanding Officer of the 19 Gamunu Watch, Lieutenant Colonel U.J.S Sarachchandra and the Commanding Officer of the 5 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Major M.P Hettiarachchi participated in the event.
The problems, challenges, remedial measures and issues which arose during the previous Tsunami disaster were taken up for discussion during the session in order to find alternative solutions for any future occurrences.
