To be well prepared to meet with any contingency, Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, General Officer Commanding, 58 Division in close consultation with health authorities in the region has begun initial work to construct a new Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) for COVID-19 patients inside the Puttalam District Hospital premises.
The construction of this new ward was accordingly inaugurated on 31 May after a few rounds of discussions. Decisions focused on the possibilities of expediting the construction as numbers of infected ones are rising in the region. Accordingly, the Division were to construct the ICC within stipulated time period in order to cope with any sudden increase of infected persons in and around Puttalam district.
General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the brainchild behind enhancing of the bed capacity and ICCs in line with the sudden increase of infected ones around the county, instructed Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, General Officer Commanding, 58 Division to take prompt action to meet with any contingency.
