Brigadier Chandimal Peiris of Special Forces (SF) assumed duties as the 16th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 57 Division, amid religious blessings at the 57 Division Headquarters in Kilinochchi on Thursday (5).
The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding of the 57 Division was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and honoured in a Guard Turnout, presented by 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops as he entered the premises.
Afterwards, the new GOC was invited to the office where he placed his signature in an official document to mark the assumption of his duties amidst 'Seth Pirith' chanting of the Maha Sangha.
Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers of the 57 Division, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present during the day's event.
He succeeded Major General Priyantha Jayawardana who has now been appointed as the Commander, Security Forces - East. Brigadier Chandimal Peiris was the Brigadier General Staff, 1 Corps prior to this new appointment.
