552 Brigade Troops with Support of National Library Services Get Books to School Library

In compliance with the guidelines, given by Major General Prasanana Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding of the 55 Division, a special event organized by 1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment troops of the 552 Brigade under the 55 Division of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna on Friday (23) donated a large stock of library books to the Government Tamil Mixed School in Iyyakachchi in Jaffna through the sponsorship, extended by the National Library Documentation Service Board.

The project was meant to coincide with the upcoming International Children’s Day on 20 November 2022. It was coordinated through Mr Kalana Chandimal Weerathunga Wakista, Division Officer of the National Library Documentation Service Board for Conservation & Restoration. Those valuable Tamil books, inclusive of stories for children, fairy tales, novels, past examination papers, fiction etc were handed over to the school by Brigadier Wijayanath Jayaweera, Brigade Commander of the 552 Brigade, participating as the Chief Guest of the event.

The Principal, Teachers, Civil Affairs Officer, Commanding Officer of 1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Rohana Thilakaratne, and few students participated in this community-oriented programme.
