55 Division Helps Children to Improve Language Proficiency

In order to help improve English language proficiency of needy students in Kevil and Kaddeikadu villages in the Jaffna peninsula, 55 Division troops of the SFHQ-J under an Army-designed ‘English Language Skill Development’ launched a programme to teach English for students of Grade 6 - 9 on Saturday (16).

On the guidelines given by the 55 Division’s General Officer Commanding, Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, Captain Suneth Rathnayake, the English Instructor at 55 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna will conduct those classes every Saturday between 9 - 11 am at the 55 Division HQ premises.

The main objective of this programme is to help children of low-income groups to enhance proficiency in English as their language standards remain relatively poor according to parents and teachers.

The inauguration ceremony of the teaching programme which is also a civil-military cooperation project took place on Saturday (11) with the participation of 20 children from the area. The project received blessings of the Commander, SF-J and it would help promote reconciliation and goodwill between the Security Forces and the civil community.
