In order to commemorate the historic end of the war that prolonged for more than 30 years, a floral tribute was paid to the War Heroes' memorial at the Mannar-based 54 Infantry Division Headquarters premises on Thursday (May 18) in memory of War Heroes who made the supreme sacrifice on behalf of the Motherland while serving in the Mannar region.
Major General W.W.H.R.R.V.M.N.D.K.B Niyangoda RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 54 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks placed the floral wreath and commemorated their memory.
After a while, a 'Bodhi Puja' invoked merits on those fallen War Heroes, headed by Ven. M Sangharakkhita Thero of Mathota Purana Viharaya where he wished speedy recovery to wounded War Heroes. A subsequent 'Pirith' chanting blessed all the Officers, Other Ranks and civil staff who are serving at present in the region. The GOC with Officers and Other Ranks joined those religious programmes.
