On information received, Intelligence Section of the 543 Brigade under the 54 Division HQ recovered 46 kilograms of Kerala Cannabis hidden near Pesalai beach in Mannar Island on Tuesday evening (30). The haul is valued at Rs 13.8 million.
No suspects were arrested and the recovered stock of Kerala Cannabis was handed over to the Pesalai Police Station for further investigations.
54 Division troops serving Mannar District in the past few months have succeeded in recovering smuggled cannabis stocks and illegal turmeric stocks to the market value of about Rs 200 m. On the direction of the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva and under the supervision of the Commander Security Forces - Wanni and the General Officer, Commanding 54 Division, troops have been busy detecting those stocks and arresting culprits.
