Army soldiers serving the 541 Brigade under 54 Division in Mannar swiftly responded to the occasion and offered their maximum support to relieve a bereaved family of their deep sorrow in Viddathalativu, Mannar.
The untimely death of the one and only son, (22) of Mrs De Mel, Additional District Secretary for Mannar due to a three-wheeler accident, struck a devastating blow to the entire Mel family, resident in Viddathalativu area and made them extremely sad and shocked.
Together with hundreds of mourners, Mannar civilians, relatives, state officials and soldiers, including 54 Division General Officer Commanding and senior officers, took part in the funeral arrangements.
Until the day of the funeral, the Army with the coordination of a senior officer at 54 Division Headquarters provided three meals to the house of morning during three days. In addition, visitor chairs, water tanks, temporary huts, etc were provided free of charge by the Army.
On all three days, soldiers condoled with the members of the family and offered whatever the assistance requested by the family.
