54 Division Marks Army Anniversary Gifting a House to a Needy Family

In parallel to the 72nd Army Day, 8 Vijayabhahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) and 10 (V) Gemunu Watch (GW) troops of the 542 Brigade of the 54 Division under the Security Force HQ - Wanni vested an Army-built new house in a poor family, headed by Mr Suresh Kumara in the general area of Silawathura, Mannar area on Monday (11).

The sponsorship for construction of the house was provided by the philanthropist in response to the efforts of the troops of the 54 Division, commanded by Major General Darshana Wijesekara, who took the initiative in this connection in collaboration with the 542 Brigade Commander.

The simple handover and warming ceremony of the house took place in the presence of Divisional Secretary for Musali Division, Mr S Rajiv, 54 Division, GOC, Major General Darshana Wijesekara, 542 Brigade Commander, Commanding Officers of 8 VIR and 10 (V) GW and a few civilians were associated with the opening of the new house.

On the same day, troops extending their helping hand towards the civil community, distributed a large stock of coconut and cashew saplings among low-income group families with the intention of promoting their livelihood income sources.
