521 Brigade Distributes 2000 Coconut Seedlings among Vadamarachchi Families

The 521 Brigade at Point Pedro launched a livelihood project in Nagar Kovil, Ampan, Kudaththane and Potpathy Grama Niladhari Divisions in Vadamarachchi distributing coconut seedlings among civilians in order to improve the economy of newly resettled people in those areas.

During the Civil-Military Coordination (CIMIC) programme, initiated by the Commander, Security Forces Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, 2000 coconut seedlings were given to 340 families.

During the ceremony organized by the 521 Brigade Civil Affairs Office at the Potpathy Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed school on 04th January, the officials of the Coconut Cultivation Board (CCB), the main sponsor of the project, gave a lecture on coconut cultivation and the ways to get best results from the tree.

The occasion was attended by Point Pedro Divisional Secretary Mr. T. Jeyaseelan, Maruthankerny Divisional Secretary Mr. S. Thirilinganathan, Regional Manager CCB Mr. P. Leelananda, 52 Division Civil Affairs Officer Lieutenant Harsha Abeywardane, 521 Brigade Civil Affairs Officer Major Nandana Kumara and a gathering of villages.
