50 More Pregnant Women, Recipients of Baby Essentials thru Army Coordination

A carefully-selected group of fifty pregnant women, resident in the general area of Mirusuvil were the recipients of baby needs and other essentials, each pack worth about Rs 5000/=, following initiatives taken by the 521 Brigade HQ under the 52 Division of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on Saturday (25).

Mr Rajikaran Shanmugarathnam, an expatriate-based in Canada came forward to assist those pregnant women at the request of the Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna and the General Officer Commanding, 52 Division, Major General Sanjeewa Fernando. 521 Brigade Commander, Brigadier, M M Salwathura and All Ranks in the 521 Brigade closely supervised and organized the distribution programme in consultation with Family Health Service personnel and Grama Seva officials.

11 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops considering it as a gesture of goodwill that promotes reconcilition and co-existence assisted its organizational aspect as per guidelines given by their Commanding Officer.

In addition to Major General Sanjeewa Fernando, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division, several invitees including the Divisional Secretary Vadamarachchi North and Point Pedro Mr Alva Pillai Sri and Assistant Superintendent of Police Point Pedro, Mr Sujeew Iddamalgoda were also associated with the day's proceedings.
