3000 More Tamil Language Qualified Army Personnel Receive Proficiency Certificates


A record 3000 Army personnel serving the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) under the ongoing Tamil Language Proficiency promotion project of the SFHQ-KLN, received their merit certificates  upon completion of their course during a ceremony at Infantry Training School, Bharathipuram, Kilinochchi on Saturday (23).

Of different groups, who followed the 4th phase of the programme, 5 Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) was adjudged the Best Unit, 661 Brigade, the Best Brigade and the 66 Division, the Best Division. Lady Officer, S.A Chathuri Perera of 6 Sri Lanka Women’s Corps was awarded the Best Student trophy in the course.

Dancers of Ravi Bandu Samanthi Dancing Institute and veteran artistes including  Kumarasiri Pathirana, Athula Sri Gamage, Indrajith Dolamulla, Suresh Gamage, Mercillin Pathirana, Jaliya Ranathunga, et al, added colour to the event, providing entertainment.  

A Tamil dancing troupe, comprised of former combatants-turned now members in the Civil Defence Service featured during the ceremony, attended by Major General Udaya Perera, Security Force Commander, Kilinochchi several senior officers and Tamil recruits under training.

Mrs Udaya Perera, spouse of the SFHQ-KLN Commander, District Secretary for Kilinochchi, Commander, Forward Maintenance Line, Kilinochchi, General Officer Commanding 66 Division and a large gathering of invitees attended the ceremony.
