23 Paddy Acres Released Back to Owners in Mullaittivu

An extent of 23 acres of paddy-fields that remained within the Mullaittivu Army camp perimeter were released back to their original owners for cultivation, following an initiative, taken by Major General L.B.R Mark, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT).

A brief ceremony, attended by Major General Mark, District Secretary for Mullaittivu, Mr A. Vedanayagam, Mullaittivu Deputy Director for Agriculture, Mr T. Yogeshwaran, Maritimepattu Divisional Secretary, Keppapilavu Grama Seva Officer, Senior Army Officers, saw that released barren paddy fields, began ploughing around the same time after those lands were symbolically accepted by the owners.

At the request of the Army, a stock of seed paddy (50 bushels), donated to the owners free of charge, was also sown during the same ceremony, addressed by Mullaittivu District Secretary, Major General Mark and Chairman, Keppapilavu Village Development Society.
