Major General Samantha Silva assumed duties as the 26th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 22 Infantry Division at the Divisional Headquarters in Plantain Point, Trincomalee on Monday (18).
As the first segment of the ceremony, the incoming GOC reviewed the Guard Turnout presented on arrival at the Headquarters premises. The GOC was welcomed by the Commander 223 Brigade, Colonel General Staff and Colonel Admin and Quartering of the 22 Division.
The new GOC left his signature in an official document and signified the acceptance amid chanting of 'Seth Pirith' of Buddhist monks at the new office.
Thereafter, the new GOC planted a sapling prior to the troop address where he briefed his vision.
22 Division Staff Officers, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and under command troops attended the ceremonial event and they extended best wishes to the new General Officer Commanding.
