2 (V) SLLI Troops Enable Cultivation of 25 Acres of Abandoned Paddy Fields

Troops of the 2 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) of the 144 Brigade under command to the 14 Division HQ of the Security Force Headquarters - West in response to the concerns of respective farming communities completely cleared the blockade along the irrigational canal that carries water to the Ewariyahena paddy fields on Saturday (5) in the general area of Ewariyahena, Hokandara.

The Grama Niladhari and affected farmers in the area reached the troops and requested Army assistance to clear the waterway which is about 1.5 km in length as the canal water could cultivate about 25 acres of Ewariyahena paddy fields which remain unattended due to lack of water. Discussions regarding the clearance of the waterway took place for two days with the participation of Commander, 144 Brigade, Colonel Vindana Kodithuwakku as per guidelines given by the 14 Division, General Officer Commanding.

2 (V) SLLI troops on Saturday (5) in the presence of agrarian officials, Grama Seva Niladari and farmers carried out the tasks on the instructions of their Commanding Officer.

Major General Krishantha Gnanarathne, General Officer Commanding, 14 Division, Colonel Vindana Kodituwakku, Commander 144 Brigade, Chairman of Rural Development Committee, Secretary to Agrarian Association accordingly supported the project.
