18 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops of the 241 Brigade under the 24 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - East on account of Esala Full Moon Poya Day (13) engaged in a community project in the general area of Nintavur, Akkaraipattu by offering meals to the orphaned in Pandirippu Vision Hopes Children’s Home and civilians awaiting fuel at Nintavur Fuel Station.
Over 500 meal parcels, prepared by the troops using their own resources as per guidelines given by the General Officer Commanding, 24 Division with the blessings of Major General Priyantha Jayawardene, Commander, Security Forces - East were accordingly distributed among children and civilians during day time.
Brigadier Chandra Abeykoon, Commander, 241 Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel S.R.K.D Sirisena, Commanding Officer, 18 VIR, Officer and Other Ranks took part in the distribution programme.
