121 Brigade troops serving the Wellawaya area promptly responded and brought a fast-spreading bushfire under control in the general area of Devagiri Mountain range in Mahagoda Yaya, Wellawaya on Saturday (16).
The timely assistance of the 121 Brigade troops under command to the Security Force HQ - Central on the directions of the 121 Brigade Commander, together with respective Commanding Officers, used water and extinguished the wildfire before it spread into the whole area where forest reserves are available.
Major General Lanka Amarapala, General Officer Commanding, 12 Division closely supervised the emergency and gave necessary directions to control the fire.
