12 Division Gets Second Consignment of Medical Aids to Hambantota Hospital

Responsive to the request of the General Officer Commanding of the 12 Division, the Sri Lankan community in the UAE sponsored the donation of a consignment of urgently-required medical accessories and medicines, worth of Rs 2,14,000/= (Meropenem and ceftriaxone) to the Government Hospital in Hambantota on Monday (1) as part of their second stock.

Colonel Coordination in the 12 Division symbolically handed over the medical consignment to Dr Suranga Ubeysekara, Director at Hambantota Hospital on behalf of Major General Lanka Amarapala, General Officer Commanding 12 Division.

Meropenem is an intravenous antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, such as meningitis, intra-abdominal infections, pneumonia, sepsis, and anthrax while ceftriaxone, including its injection is also an antibiotic to treat bacterial infections.

Those accessories were urgently required in order to uplift the health facilities of the people in Hambantota. Accordingly, those UAE-based donors at very short notice came forward to offer this assistance at the request of the 12 Division’s General Officer Commanding.

General Staff Officer 1 Operations in the 12 Division and administrative officers at Hambantota Hospital were associated with the day’s handover of the consignment.
