12 Division serving Hambantota area marked its 1st Division Day on Monday (2) at Nagarawewa, Hambantota 12 Division Headquarters, giving pride of place to religious observances, blood donation campaigns and entertainment.
The 1st anniversary arrangements, organized under the aegis of Brigadier D.S.N.K. Senadheera, General Officer Commanding, 12 Division, started off on April 1 with an overnight Pirith chanting ceremony plus a Sangika Dana (alms giving) to the members of the Maha Sanga.
On April 2, a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by 12 Division troops at the premises saluted the General Officer Commanding, 12 Division. It followed a tree-planting ceremony plus an all rank lunch on the day itself as a gesture of friendliness and understanding among all serving the Division. The same evening entertained all the soldiers in the Division to western and oriental music plus a variety entertainment.
The anniversary celebrations culminated with a blood donation drive on April 5.
