The grand finale of the year’s mammoth ‘Ranaviru Real Star - Mission IV’ that glittered Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium Saturday (26) evening, voted Captain Aruni de Silva of the Sri Lanka Army as the ‘Ranaviru Real Star - 2014’ after two competitive rounds, competed by six more finalists.
The SMS count received from both local and foreign spectators exceeded 10 million mark in addition to 60% selection done by the panel of judges, comprised of Mr Jakson Anthony, Mr Edward Jayakody and Ms Yashodha Wimaladharma.
HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Chief Guest together with First Lady Mrs Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Mr Keheliya Rambukwella, Hon. Minister of Mass Media and Information, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development and Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, President, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Seva Vanitha Unit, Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force, their spouses, senior officials of the Ministry of Defence, Chairman of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Cooperation, Chief Executive Officer of Dialog Axiata, tri-service senior officers and a large gathering of the relatives of singing stars, tri-service other ranks and invitees witnessed the colourful spectacle adorned with many entertaining cultural features of the highest standards.
The floor of gigantic reality show assumed exciting proportion as the finalists entered decisive second round of the fray.
Popular hits like Pandith Amaradeva’s ‘Obey Namin Seya Bandimi’, ‘Thanha Asha’ and many others sang by Victor Ratnayake, Rookantha Gunatillake, Senanayaka Weraliyadda, et al added sensational flavour to the mega spectacle that kept the audience spellbound accompanied by thundering applause and unfailing revelry of the fans who supported respective service contenders wright throughout.
The winner, Captain Aruni de Silva of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) burst into tears in glee as the result was announced and she was awarded a Rs 20 million worth new house plus many other parks including cash, LED television, sophisticated Dialog phone, etc. While the first runner-up Leading Aircraftman M.G.N.M.D Dayarathna of Sri Lanka Air Force was presented with a brand new Toyota Avanza car valued about Rs 7 million. All other runners-up up to 38 slot carried cash gifts amounting from Rs 25,000 - 1million. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa and Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the architect and prime mover of the world’s first military reality show, flanked by tri-service Commanders participated in the distribution awards to the winners and those who reached until final 12 competitors.
Illuminated with the most modern lighting systems coupled with stage backgrounds provided a historical artistic dimensions to the entire settings that befitted all the entertaining features and multi-coloured dancing troupe of the tri-services.
