The ‘Guna Jaya Sathuta Padanama’ (Foundation of Goodness) of Mr Kusil Gunasekara which has been supporting the welfare of school students and needy civilians in newly resettled areas and elsewhere in the recent past, offered its generosity to Mankulam area once again by giving away push bicycles, school bags, computers to students and accessories to a school library.
300 students, selected from Karachchi, Kandavali and Visuamadu areas who used to attend schools covering long distances everyday were gifted each with a push bicycle on the recommendations of school and other authorities. At the same time, 50 of those children received school bags as special gifts during the special ceremony, held at Mankulam Maha Vidyalaya on Thursday (26).
Popular cricketer, Kumara Sangakkara, attending the occasion as the Chief Guest following the invitation, extended by the ‘Guna Jaya Sathuta Padanama’, gave away those donations. 57 Division assisted the project by organizing and coordinating.
As one more important feature of the project, Mankulam Maha Vidyalaya received four computers plus several accessories, needed for the use in its library as a donation.
Giving a rare opportunity to those students, the visiting Kumar Sangakkara conducted a cricket training session in the school ground soon after distribution of those gifts.
Mr Kusil Gunasekara, Head, ‘Guna Jaya Sathuta Padanama’, Major General A.W.J.C. de Silva, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi, Brigadier K.R.P. Rowell, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division and several other senior officers were present at the occasion.
