'Camouflage': Fashion Show Catwalks in Style


‘Camouflage’: Fashion’s Frontline, stunned the fashion conscious audiences of Colombo when the super models in the city paraded the Catwalks of Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre last night (29). First Lady Mrs. Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa graced the event as the Chief Guest.

This fashion show with a difference was organized to generate funds to provide scholarships for the children of fallen War Heroes was conducted in partnership with Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT), showcased designs of 27 designers including 12 design graduates who revealed their final collections and another 15 fashion students who showcased an Avant Garde collection depicting the theme of ‘Camouflage’ which was initially ideated by ‘Viru Daru’ members. A special collection highlighting the tea flavors’ of Lipton was also part of the show. The designs exhibited throughout the show were inspired by the scenic beauty of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.

A bevy of amateur models, comprising Viru Daru Children groomed by the official choreographer, Mr. Lou Ching Wong within three short days, especially for this show, took the audience by surprise when they performed well in par with super professional models on the ramp.

Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), the live wire behind the Viru Daru Society, along with Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Commander of the Army, warmly welcomed the First Lady Mrs. Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa accompanied by Mrs Indrani Weeratunga, the spouse of the Secretary to HE the President on arrival.

Dancers of renowned choreographer Mr. Channa Wicramasingha and Army’s cultural troupe added more glamour to the fashion show.  

Towards the end of the day’s itinerary, the Chief Guest, after being conducted to the podium by the President SVAB, presented tokens of appreciation to Ms. Niroshani Leanage, Mr. Ramzi Rahaman and Mr. Lou Ching Wong for their commitment for the success of the show. Thereafter President Viru Daru society, Ms. Deshani Jayasuriya, honoured the First Lady, Mrs. Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, with a memento appreciating her presence.   

Corporate giant Unilevers was the Official Platinum sponsor under their sub brand Lipton. United Colours of Benettons was recognized as the Silver sponsor. Besides the financial support, the expertise of many professionals including Ms. Niroshani Leanage, Managing Director LIFT also offered to this show, choreographed by Mr. Lou Ching Wong. Salon Ramzi volunteered to offer their support as the Hair and Makeup partner and videography was done by Yasendra Amerasinghe. Kalani Handlooms was recognized as the Official Fabrics Partner and Xtream Youth and Revolution Portfolio as the official online media partners.

Children of the Viru Daru Society, senior officers of Sri Lanka Army and a large number of prominent figures of fashion industry including representatives of fashion media witnessed the show amidst a packed audience at SLECC.
