‘Army Eastern Games - 2014’, the sports spree for Army troops serving the Eastern Province that came into being as a suggestion of the Commander of the Army, started off at the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) at Welikanda on May 19 with the Basketball tournament.
The sports tournament that will continue till 7th June with track and field events, many other sports and athletics is to be competed by all regiments serving the SFHQ-E.
The inaugural exhibition Basketball match, watched by Major General Lal Perera, Commander, SFHQ-E as the Chief Guest, took place between two teams of the Sri Lanka Army General Services Corps (SLAGSC).
The final three-day track and field events will get underway at Polonnaruwa National Sports Complex during June 5, 6 and 7.
