  • Russian Donation to Army De-miners Expected to Speed Up De-mining in Sri Lanka


    Sri Lanka Army Humanitarian De-mining Unit (SLAHDU), the only government and indigenous self-reliant organization, engaged in Sri Lanka’s de-mining work, received a heartening stimulus when the Russian Federation, appreciative of de-mining roles in Sri Lanka, donated four MV4 machines, fast moving spares, 100 jackets, 100 metal detectors and 100 visor helmets to the Army on Thursday (3) at Ministry of Defence and Urban Development grounds, Colombo 3.

  • 56 Division Conducts a Series of Welfare Projects in Vavuniya

     
    A series of welfare and community development activities were organized by the 56 Division of the Sri Lanka Army recently in Vavuniya. These activities patronized by the General Officer Commanding 56 Division Brigadier N. A. P. C. Napagoda coincided with the 14th Anniversary of Divisions existence. A blood donation campaign was conducted at the Division headquarters in which 165 Officers and soldiers.....

  • Army Jointly Initiates Papaya Cultivation for Vitamin Deficiency


    Following initiatives taken jointly by the Department of Family Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya and troops of the 14 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (14SR), a pilot project to popularize papaya fruit cultivation and its consumption among villagers as a solution to the high prevalence of vitamin A and C deficiencies among re-settled communities in Mannakandal and Kanagarathnapuram in Mullaittivu district has been organized.

    Ten students from low-income groups received scholarships to continue their studies from the 512 Brigade serving the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SF-J) during a recent ceremony at Jaffna Central College, Jaffna. Those students from families without either of their parents were selected jointly by principals and Grama Niladharis of the areas.

    The closing session of the 48th Army Inter Regiment Athletic Meet - 2011, organized by the Army Athletic Association, took place Friday (4) evening with all the pomp and ceremony of a sports event of international standards. As keen sports men and women, displaying highest professional sportsmanship, over 1500 Army athletes representing 24 Regiments vied with their fellow-athletes for three days (Nov 2,3 & 4) at the Army built Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium for supremacy.
