Commander Visits Vadamarachchi, Reviews Commitment of Troops

The Commander of the Army during his tour to Jaffna visited Task Force 7 and 55 Division in Iyyakachchi area Sunday (3) to review the progress and the well-being of the soldiers in those areas. On arrival, the Commander was accorded a Guard Turnout by the soldiers at the entrance to the Task Force 7. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya unveiled a plaque and planted a tree sapling in the Task Force 7 camp premises to mark his visit.

Hours after the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya inaugurated the count down to the 10 day long commemoration ceremonies in connection with the Army’s 61st Anniversary and Army Day (10th October) at Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, the Commander of the Army declared open the newly constructed ‘Thal Sewana’ Holiday Resort at Kankasanthurai in Jaffna Saturday (2) evening.
An eye clinic was conducted at Periyapandivirichchan village in 61 Division area recently, in order to provide the services of qualified doctors and opticians to the newly resettled civilian population in the area. The clinic organized under the guidance of Brigadier A. Kariyakarawana General Officer Commanding 61 Division was conducted throughout the day (30th September) by well-known opticians, Vision Care Optical Services (Pvt) Ltd with the participation of 5 doctors.
The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), intending to resolve issues pertaining to war-affected disable War Heroes, had its ‘mobile service’ arrangement at Regimental Headquarters of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) in Boyagane, Kurunegala on Monday (4). Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President SVAB accompanied by some senior members of the SVAB attended the mobile service. On arrival, SVAB President was warmly welcomed by VIR Seva Vanitha Unit President, Mrs. Preethi Samaratunge.

Soldiers serving in Jaffna have donated Rs. 2 million towards the construction of Anuradhapura ‘Abimansala’, the wellness resort for the totally dependant disable War Heroes. This was handed over to the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya by the Security Forces Commander Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe on Saturday (2) when the Commander of the Army visited Jaffna on a 2 day tour.
Sri Lana Army has organized a series of events to commemorate its 61st Anniversary which falls on the 10th instant. In addition to the main ceremonies many peripheral events organized by various formation headquarters are conducted island-wide. One such event organized by the Security Forces Headquarters South (SF HQ – S) was held in Kandy recently.
