Bangladesh National Defence College Team Arrives in Sri Lanka
A delegation of 32 service personnel from Bangladesh National Defence College (NDC), headed by Rear Admiral Muhammad Anwarul Islam currently in Sri Lanka on a familiarization tour as part of their curriculum, called on Major General Sumedha Perera, Director General General Staff at the Army Headquarters, Colombo on Friday (12).
The 30th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) which has been engaged in numerous welfare measures for the benefit of war heroes and their families was held on Saturday (13) at Waters Edge Hotel, Battaramulla on a grand scale with participation of more than 300 of regimental Seva Vanitha chairpersons, executive board members and senior members.
The annual sports meet of the Vazvazham children’s home, organized by troops of 14 Gemunu Watch (GW) of the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna (SFHQ-J) at Marathanamadam Girls School grounds in Jaffna, took place recently with the presence of a gathering of well-wishers, officers and senior citizens of the area.
In response to a request, made by the Principal at Illavalai Girls School, the troops of 531 Brigade of the 53 Division of the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna (SFHQ-J), offered their assistance to immediately remove a 140-year old dilapidated school building which remained a life-threat to the students for a long time as the school authorities could not afford for its removal from the premises.
Sri Lanka Army women’s soccer team won the all-island Cargills trophy in the women’s club tournament, defeating Sri Lanka Navy woman soccer team in the final encounter, held at Sugathadasa Stadium on Sunday (14). Sri Lanka Army Soccer Team beat Leo FC, Kurunegala by 4-2 before it recorded victory against Navy FC at the final round by 10-9.
Sponsorship, provided by Hirdramani Private Limited for the troops of the 57 Division under the Security Force Headquarters Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) recently enabled them to distribute 40 water tanks of 1000 liters each, among drought-hit people in Piramanthal Aru and Punnaniravi villages. SFHQ-KLN took the initiative in this regard considering the series of hardships those villagers were facing due to scarcity of water for all purposes.
Major General N. Udawatta, Master General Ordinance (MGO) at Army Headquarters, Colombo and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) visited the Security Force Headquarters Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) on Friday (12) on a familiarization tour after he took over as the new MGO of the Army Headquarters.
Security Force Headquarters Wanni’s (SFHQ-W) 21 Division basket ball players after a very close contest on the final day of the Inter Divisional Basket Ball Championship 2014, defeating their 54 Division counterparts, carried away the 2014 Championship on Tuesday (16).
