Sri Lanka Army both men’s and women’s cricket teams won the T-20 Cricket Tournaments against visiting Hong Kong National team men and women cricket teams, held at the Army Cricket Stadium, Panagoda on Saturday (6). Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) with the intention of enlightening the troops on dangers of the use of narcotics, organized a counselling programme on Friday (5) at the SFHQ-W auditorium. Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) facilitated the distribution of 250 dry ration packets among resettled families in Veheratenna, Vavuniya on Saturday (6). Each packet consisted of rice, dhal, potatoes, salt, soya meat, sugar, tea, manioc yams, flour, garlic, chili powder, curry powder, turmeric powder, etc. The social service organization, ‘Sath Sith’ sponsored the donation and the event was headed by Ven. ‘Sappers 4 x 4 GYMPO 2014’, the pioneering off road event of the Army’s Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE), had its day at Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering at Embilipitiya on Sunday (7) to the cheers of thousands of spectators. The event, organized for the successive fourth year was opened ceremonially by Major General V.U.B Nanayakkara, Colonel Commandant, SLE after hoisting the SLE flag.
Troops serving 53 Division under the Directorate of Operation at Army Headquarters in the general area of Inamaluwa, Dambulla on Wednesday (10) responded quickly and arrested a bush fire that was fast spreading in a forest reserve close to the 53 Division Headquarters. The bush fire that broke out as a result of prevailing dry weather condition was brought under control in less than an hour.
