The newly-appointed Commander of the Army Lieutenant General A.W.J. Crishanthe De Silva Tuesday (24) afternoon paid a courtesy call on HE the President Maithripala Sirisena, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces at the President’s Secretariat after assumption of office as Commander of the Army at the Army Headquarters.

Several welfare projects for the benefit of civilians were conducted by the Security Force Headquarters-East (SFHQ-E) during February 22-24. Troops of 12 Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery provided free refreshments for 300 scouts at Vilayaya School who were conducting a bicycle race from the school premises to Gal Viharaya in Polonnaruwa on 22 February.
Ginigathhena Central College in Nuwara Eliya with the help of 22 Sri Lanka National Guard troops who are serving under the Security Force Headquarters – Central, recently organized a blood donation campaign at the college premises. 17 Army personnel, including the Commanding Officer of 22 Sri Lanka National Guard took part in the campaign. A large number of civilians in the area and school children came forward to donate blood.
Two donation programmes were held with the assistance of the 551 Brigade in Jaffna area on 21 February. The donations were sponsored by ‘Janasarana’ Foundation, Lions’ Club and Edna Company. One donation programme was held at the Methodist Mission Mixed school in Mathanai where school items including whiteboards, chairs, library books, whiteboard markers and sportswear were donated to the school.
