The newly-appointed 21st Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General A. W. J. Crishanthe De Silva RWP USP ndu psc of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) who took office this morning (23) at the Army Headquarters, was greeted with military honours and other ceremonials before a large representative gathering of senior officers and other ranks.
Embassy of the United States of America under its defence co-operation programme gifted a stock of de-mining equipment and accessories to the de-miners of the Sri Lanka Army on Tuesday (24). The stock, comprised of 500 helmets, 440 body armours, 50 medical packs, 4 GIS mapping software units, 10 memory cards and 10 cameras, is an incentive given to the Sri Lanka Army for further promotion of its continuous de-mining assignments in the north.

Major General Nandana Udawatta assumed duties as the Commander, Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on 21 February during a brief ceremony. In accordance with military traditions, Major General Udawatte reviewed the Guard Turnout and received the salute of the Guard of Honour, presented by the troops of the SFHQ after his arrival at the SFHQ-J premises.
The new Officer Mess of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), named ‘SPIRIT’ was recently opened by Mr Ruwan Wijewardene, State Minister of Defence during his recent visit to the north. On a concept by Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W, the three storied Officer Mess was built to suit natural surroundings at a cost of Rs 53 m.
