Major General A.W.J.C De Silva Appointed New Commander of the Army


General Daya Ratnayake, the outgoing Commander of the Army minutes after his ceremonial handover of the office to his successor, Major General A.W.J.C De Silva used the occasion to talk to media personnel who had come there to cover the day’s proceedings in connection with his farewell ceremony at the Army Headquarters.
A Dutch National on honeymoon tour in Sri Lanka with his newly-wedded wife was rescued by Army troops this afternoon (21) from near death when he accidentally fell off from the World’s End in Horton Plains while on tour in the area. 3 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Amitha Perera, led by Company Commander Major W.A.L. Ranthilaka, in the area quickly responded to the danger and rushed to the scene.

The new Commander of the Army Lieutenant General A. W. J. Crishanthe De Silva, giving prominence to the memory of fallen War Heroes made a beeline to the Ranaviru Smarakaya (War Hero Monument) at Battaramulla soon after he took the reins as the 21st Commander of the Army at the Army Headquarters. Crishanthe De Silva, the new Commander of the Army, just hours after assumption of office this morning (23), went to see the well-being of the hospital inmates at the Narahenpita Military Hospital, together with several senior officers. Lieutenant General De Silva speaking to a section of those inmates shared views with them and made inquiries into their well-being and gave away some gift parcels.
