  • 43 Dead Tigers Collected

    MULLAITTIVU: TROOPS on search and clear operations in the general area of KARIYAMULLAVAIKKAL recovered forty-three LTTE dead bodies, sixty-five T-56 weapons, two body-armours, one pouch, three helmets, thirteen explosive cans and one Outboard Motor (OBM) on Tuesday (12).  Meanwhile, troops recovered thirty-five 60 mm mortar bombs, one hundred 0.5 ammunition, one thousand five hundred and fifty Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition from CHUNDIKULAM area.

  • Troops Snatch LTTE's Improvised MBRL

    MULLAITTIVU: 58 DIVISION troops, now dominating in KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAL area captured one more LTTE’s improvised Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) when terrorists were trying to take it back after fierce confrontations with the Army Wednesday (13) morning. Heavy resistance offered by the troops compelled the terrorists to withdraw further into the south in the ‘New Safety Zone’ while taking this improvised MBRL with them, but intensified firepower of the troops forced the terrorists to slow down their retreating.

  • Hey, Here is That Wonderful 'Civilians' Hospital !

    MULLAITTIVU: HAVE you ever seen this type of a hospital treating ‘innocent civilians’? Have you also seen a medical center which has been “extensively booby-trapped” and its outside perimeter, filled with explosives and protected by a fortified bunker?  A few weeks ago, an international relief organization, under the illusion that this unit was meant for civilians, repeatedly requested the Army to refrain from targeting this so-called ‘hospital’ in the No Fire Zone.

  • 55-ft Long LTTE Suicide Boat Emerges from Beachside

    MULLAITTIVU: A 55-FEET long Tiger (LTTE) suicide boat, laden with some 1500 kg of high explosives was uncovered by 53 Division troops, commanded by Major General KAMAL GUNERATHNE from KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAL  area when the troops were moving deeper into the beach side Wednesday (13) afternoon. The suicide boat, plastered with claymore mines around its hull has been kept hidden under bushes by the side of the beach at the time troops traced it. It is believed Tiger terrorists, intending a fierce assault on the troops at any given time had shrouded it inside creepers and bushes.

  • Intended LTTE Bloodbath Prevented; 18 Claymores Unearthed

    COLOMBO: ARMY intelligence, subsequent to a tip-off given, made a breakthrough Wednesday (13) afternoon in COLOMBO when the troops stormed a garage premises on LUCAS MAWATHA, COLOMBO 15 (GRANDPASS) and unearthed 18 powerful claymore mines, 85 kg of high-powered explosives, two radio sets and two pull switch. That had been kept buried by suspected Tiger terrorists. The timely recovery saved an intended bloodbath and a huge destruction, believed to have been masterminded by Tiger in COLOMBO. Army troops with the help of the Police are conducting investigation.

  • British Speaker Says LTTE Demo a Hijacking of Parliament

    THE SPEAKER of the British House of Commons Michael Martin charged that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) demonstration on Monday hijacked the British Parliament obstructing duties of elected members. In an obvious reference made to filthy unsanitary conditions created by the week long demonstration by the Tigers in the Parliamentary Square, the Speaker said to hijack an important part of this city with hunger strikers, tents and food stalls, but no toilet facilities, is not the proper way to conduct a demonstration.

  • Resettlement, Development and Security in the Northern Province; President Appoints Task Force

    PRESIDENT MAHINDA RAJAPAKSA by virtue of powers vested in him by Article 33 (f) of the Constitution of the Democratic, Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, has appointed a 19- member Presidential Task Force for Resettlement, Development and Security in the Northern Province. It is mandated to prepare strategic plans, programs and projects to resettle internally displaced persons, rehabilitate and develop economic and social infrastructure of the Northern Province.The other activities commissioned to the Task Force are

  • Troops Recover Nineteen Terrorist Dead Bodies; One LTTE Leader among Killed

    WANNI: ARMY troops on continuous search and clear operations in liberated areas of KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAL collected nineteen LTTE dead bodies from the area on Wednesday (13). One senior LTTE fighting cadre, identified as KANNIKKARAN was among the dead, troops confirmed. In addition, twenty one T 56 weapons, one 12.7mm weapon, one MPMG (Multi Purpose Machine Gun), one Light Machine Gun (LMG), one FNC weapon, one 12.7mm gun barrel, three claymore mines each weighing about 12.5 kg, one disposable RPG (Rocket Propeller Grenade), one improvised mortar launcher and two I-Com radio sets were also recovered from the same area.

  • Senanayake, Mangala & Swarnakanthi of Sri Lanka Army Establish New National Records

    THE NATIONAL SPORTS SHOOTING FEDERATION of Sri Lanka conducted its National Pool selection trials for ISSF (International Sport Shooting Federation) Olympic events at Panagoda electronic range complex from 03 March 2009 to 09 April 2009. Over 50 shooters participated in the trials and following records were established. Veteran Olympic shooter E.M. Senanayake of Army Small Arms Association bettered his own Free Pistol record of 557/600 to 561/600.

  • Two more LTTE Suicide Boats & Three Vehicles Found

    MULLAITTIVU: 53 DIVISION troops, commanded by Major General KAMAL GUNERATHNE during extended search and clear operations in KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAL area where they recovered a 55-ft long LTTE suicide boat uncovered two more suicide boats, two armour-plated unicorn vehicles and one buffel vehicle by Wednesday (13) evening. Explosive- laden boats and other three passangers movement  vehicles had been covered with foliage when they were recovered by the troops.
