  • War Hero's Son Pins First Flag on President Inaugurating War Hero Week

    HIS EXCELLENCY, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, officially inaugurating the ‘War Heroes Week’ (May 11 - 20), precursor to this year’s final National Victory Day (20) ceremony, received the first commemorative Ranaviru Flag at Temple Trees on Tuesday (11) in the presence of Ministers, Secretary Defence, Provincial Governors, Provincial Secretaries, Ranaviru Seva Authority officials, senior tri-service officers and a host of other invitees.

  • Special Ward for War Heroes in Ayurveda Hospital

    THE Indigenous Medicine Ministry will take steps to establish a special ward for war heroes in the next construction phase of the Borella Ayurveda Hospital, Indigenous Medicine Minister Piyasena Gamage said after a visit to the hospital recently. The announcement came to coincide with the ongoing War Heroes week. He said it is our responsibility to look after all war heroes at all times. As a respect for all war heroes we have decided to construct this special ward.

  • National War Heroes Commemoration on May 20

    THE National War Heroes commemoration ceremony organised by the Rana Viru Seva Authority will be held near the war memorial at the Sri Jayewardenapura Kotte Parliamentary grounds under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa on May 20 at 4.30 p.m. Parallel to this, several provincial ceremonies will be held to commemorate war heroes from today till May 17.   • CPO Calls on Lankans to Commemorate Victory Day

    THE Consortium of Patriotic Organization (CPO) has called upon all people of Sri Lanka to celebrate Victory Day on May 18, as it was on that day last year that the gallant security forces crushed the Tiger terrorist movement. In a communique issued yesterday, the CPO states that with the end of the 30-year war against Tiger terrorism, the indiscriminate killing of innocent people had come to an end, and they could now go about without any fear.

  • ICG Report: Sri Lanka Guilty of War Crimes?

    INTERNATIONAL CRISIS GROUP (ICG) is preparing an exparte report calling for an international inquiry into alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka. To give credibility to itself, there will also be a vague finding against the LTTE. With the LTTE ceasing to exist - such an adverse finding would cause no impact on a defunct LTTE. ICG naming them too as a guilty party- will be a mere eyewash.It is the backroom boys at the ICG that are playing the role of scripting the ghost report to discredit the Defense Forces of Sri Lanka.     THE NATION is paying the highest possible tribute this week to the gallant men and women of our Armed Forces, Civil Defence Force and Police for their resounding victory against the LTTE. The declaration of the week May 11-18 as the Ranaviru Week by the Government is praiseworthy. As a nation we need to recognize the tremendous sacrifice made by those men and women who stood up to protect Sri Lanka.
