  • Seva Vanitha Gives Away Artificial Limbs Received from New Zealand

    MR CHANNA RANASINGHE, Chairman, United Sri Lanka Association in New Zealand, a school-time pal of Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, in addition to his previous assistance to the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), has once again donated ten more artificial limbs to be distributed among disable War Heroes. On the sidelines of the SVAB monthly meeting for April on Monday (3), ten disable War Heroes from Sri Lanka National Guard, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Gajaba Regiment and Gemunu Watch received....

  • Government to Establish Reconciliation Commission

    PRIME MINISTER D.M. Jayaratne yesterday stated in Parliament that the Government will establish a Reconciliation Commission to build mutual trust among communities. The Premier moving the motion to extend the Emergency Regulations by another one month said the objective of the Commission was to build the trust if there were any breach of trust among the communities due to the conflict that prevailed in the country. Proposals can be made to this Commission.

    Both General Courts Martial, probing into charges against General Sarath Fonseka were convened to resume their sittings on Wednesday (5), as determined earlier by members of those military tribunals. The first Court Martial, appointed to try the respondent on charges of participation in political work was convened at 9.30 a.m. and adjourned until 2.00 p.m. on 1st June 2010.

He said that there was no threat to Sri Lanka's national security and it was the leaders feeling insecure who ruled under Emergency laws in peacetime. Gen. Fonseka is entitled to his opinion and what he says in Parliament cannot be questioned.
